2011 Drive for the Podium a Huge Success!
Thanks to everyone who took part in the 2011 Mark Lowry Drive
for the Podium Golf Tournament held on June 20th at Stonebridge
Golf and Country Club.
The weather was gorgeous and the 150+ attending had a great
day. Your generosity was exceptional and we raised $21,000
this year, not easy in these challenging financial times.
The proceeds of this tournament are used to assist current
and aspiring Olympic athletes and coaches. Over the past six
years that the tournament has been held over $150,000 has
been raised.
We were honoured to have former Olympians Alex Baumann (swimming),
Sue Holloway (cross country skiing, canoe/kayak), Alison Korn
(rowing), Ole Sorensen (wrestling) and Scott Cranham (diving)
take part in the day.
Emcee Scott Russell of CBC Sports did his usual wonderful
job at keeping the evening program rolling and the Lowry family
truly appreciates his continued support of the tournament.
Auctioneer Kent Browne also provided his services and helped
raise a significant amount through the live auction.
Thanks go to our many sponsors (see below) and auction prize
donors for their generosity as well. Without them this event
would not be near the success that it is.
Watch this web site for news of where the next contribution
will be made from the Mark Lowry Sport Excellence Fund.

Mark Lowry Memorial Sport Excellence Fund
Provides $31,500 to Rideau Canoe Club
October 2010 -
On Friday, October 22, 2010 Jennifer and Brendan Lowry were
pleased to present a cheque to the Rideau Canoe Club in the
amount of $31,500 which will supplement the recent $2.3 million
overhaul of the Club funded by various levels of government.
The Club held a reception attended by some 125 Rideau Canoe
Club members as well as many supporters of the Drive for the
Podium Golf Tournament (the prime source of fundraising for
the Sport Excellence Fund).
The Mark Lowry Fund provided support to purchase kayak and
canoe ergometers, strength training equipment, a new national
team motor boat and motor and a high definition video camera.
Rideau Canoe Club Commodore Hector Carranco accepted the
cheque on behalf of the Club and spoke about how this contribution
will help the athletes and coaches at the Club to train for
their various competitions.

Emcee Sue Holloway, an Olympian in 1976, 1980 and 1984 as
well as a co-worker of Mark’s at the Canadian Olympic
Committee also introduced Mark’s sisters, Anne and Jean,
who along with a third sister, Marie, were paddlers at the
Rideau Canoe Club in their youth and who are very proud of
the support being provided by the Sport Excellence Fund to
their “alma mater”.
The Lowry Family wants all supporters to know how much your
support is appreciated and how it has helped Canada “own
the podium” in international sport. More...
