Excellence Fund Provides $31,500 to Rideau Canoe Club
The latest Mark Lowry Sport Excellence Fund donation was
made October 22, 2010 to the Rideau Canoe Club of Ottawa for
a training centre in its newly renovated club house, to be
used by club members and other provincial/national team members
training at Rideau.
Over 125 paddlers, participants at the 2010 Drive for the
Podium Golf Tournament, and friends attended a reception emceed
by Sue Holloway, 1976, 1980, and 1984 Olympic paddler and
former co-worker of Mark at COC.
The paddling machines, weight training and other equipment
(including a new boat and motor) purchased with the support
of the Sport Excellence Fund, were demonstrated by some of
Rideau's national team paddlers. Several speakers spoke about
the tremendous heritage of the Rideau Canoe Club and their
current and past international successes. Hector Carranco,
Commodore of the club spoke of the great future potential
with the availability of this new equipment to improve training.
